Child Counseling
Child Counseling Services at The Center for Hope and Healing
The Center for Hope and Healing Child Counseling addresses various issues that children and families may face, including anxiety, parent separation or divorce, grief and loss, trauma, behavior problems, difficulty identifying emotions, emotional regulation, and lack of coping skills.
We utilize play therapy as a means of addressing these challenges. We aim to help children, families, and individuals uncover their true potential and live a life worth celebrating.
What is Play Therapy?
Play Therapy is a specialized form of therapy that uses the natural language of little ones: play. It is defined by the Association for Play Therapy (APT) as "the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process, where trained Play Therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psycho social difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development."
Play therapy refers to many treatment methods that apply the therapeutic benefits of play to help children express themselves and address their problems.
We specialize in using play therapy to address a variety of challenges that children may face, including:
- Anxiety
- Parent separation or divorce
- Grief and loss
- Trauma
- Behavior problems
- Difficulty identifying emotions.
- Difficulty with emotional regulation
- Lack of coping skills
How Play Therapy Benefits the Child
Play therapy provides children with a safe space to express their feelings and emotions symbolically, using toys and play as their language. Children can reenact specific themes until they fully represent and process their thoughts and feelings, making it an effective modality to address various issues. Play therapy helps children develop a sense of responsibility for their behavior, new and creative solutions to problems, respect and acceptance of self and others, the ability to experience and express emotions, empathy, and respect for the thoughts and feelings of others. They will also experience improved social and relational skills.
With our child counseling services, children can:
- Develop new and creative solutions to problems.
- Develop respect and acceptance of self and others.
- Learn to experience and express emotions.
- Cultivate empathy and respect for others thoughts and feelings.
- Learn social and relational skills with family.
- Develop self-efficacy and assurance in their abilities.
